English 🇬🇧:
pB: Before we started working together, what was your biggest challenge in entering the German grocery retail market — and how do things look today?
Alain: Before working together, the biggest challenge was getting a clear picture of how to get organized and how to get started in the German retail market. plan Bio helped us bring focus to the North of Germany in a structured way. Today, after one year, we have a clear model for Germany, working together with plan Bio for the North and with several key wholesalers supplying the retail — Edeka and Rewe. Our first success is listing in over 300 stores and placing more than 70 displays in the shops.
pB: Which moments or milestones with plan Bio have you particularly enjoyed?
Alain: The first listings in Hamburg and the start with Liebing as a key wholesaler. Also the start with LogiBio in the Minden region and the strong progress in Berlin. The success we have with our displays.
Kiran: Business works when people have their heart in it. That’s what we love about plan Bio.
pB: What made you decide to partner with us in the first place?
Alain: plan Bio has a focused approach. You are not one of the 100+ brands. At plan Bio, you get the attention for your brand. Markus is very accessible and thinks along with you to define the right approach. And of course there is the very enthusiastic and motivated team!
pB: What advice would you give to other organic brands hoping to gain a foothold in the German grocery retail landscape?
Alain: First of all it should be a strategic choice and thus be high on the company’s agenda. To be successful, it will require focus, investments and patience. Go step by step. Build small successes, and surround yourself with good people – like the plan Bio team. Do not forget to enjoy the journey!
Many thanks to Kiran Tawadey and Alain De Bruyn for the insights and the great collaboration!
